After graduating from Oxford in 1954 with an MA reading Litterae Humaniores and Philosophy, Politics and Economics, Hugh joined HM Overseas Civil Service and spent time working in Zambia and Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). In 1971, Hugh joined Westminster City Council working as a Progress Control Officer before joining the National Building Agency in 1978, working as a Management Consultant.
In 1982, Hugh was made Partner at NBA Tectonics where he produced government publications on “Compare Your Home Heating Costs” and similar projects. He also worked with the Building Research Establishment (BRE) on BREHOMES’s National Model of Energy Consumption in Housing, and produced software marketed by MVM consultants for calculating SAP ratings.
Following his retirement in 1993, Hugh has put his extensive experience to good use by acting as the Administrator for the National Right to Fuel Campaign – from 2003-05 – and continuing to work for BRE on the BREHOMES model until 2011.
