Oxford Latest to Sign up to Surviving Winter Campaign
Oxford Community Foundations is the latest to lend its support to the Surviving Winter Campaign aimed at encouraging those better off who receive winter fuel payment to donate the money to those in Fuel Poverty. Last year alone the campaign in Oxford managed to raise £35,000.
Whilst campaigns such as Surviving Winter are fantastic the NRFC is frustrated that those, mainly elderly, fuel poor must rely on the charity of other pensioners and not the Government for help with their energy bills. Hugh Goulbourne, Chair of the NRFC commented that ‘…At a time when excess winter fuel deaths are on the rise, the Government needs to do more to supplement the great efforts of Community Foundations and other Fuel Poverty organisations in eradicating Fuel Poverty, not only this year but every year’.
