Official Launch of the Green Deal
The Government’s flagship Green Deal programme to transform the energy efficiency of the UK’s building stock has now officially launched, promising to allow households to undertake a wide-ranging of property improvements at no upfront cost.
Under the scheme, householders are to be offered long-term loans to help make their homes more energy efficient and cut bills.

Commenting on the launch, Chair of the NRFC Hugh Goulbourne said:
“The NRFC welcomes the Green Deal. Any Government initiative with the ambition of improving fuel efficiency is a good thing and clearly this has the potential to help customers upgrade their homes and manage their energy costs more effectively. However we are concerned that the scheme is highly complicated and fear that the high interest rates that come with a Green Deal loan are likely to frighten off many households. Because of this, it is vital that the Government urgently clarifies how it will ensure that the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is targeted at those households that are most in need of affordable energy efficiency measures.”
